As soon as I moved to Baltimore, Maryland I started searching for the local dishes and restaurants to try out. Over the last few years living here I’ve managed to go on enough eating adventures to share what I think is the must eat food in Baltimore, MD (despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting everything down for a while).

While convincing my partner we that should book a week-long trip to Rome using Groupon Getaways, I used his birthday in early March as a great excuse to take a trip. Then of course I had to figure out how to make the day of his birthday in the middle of our trip special, and what better way to celebrate than learning to make pasta? We love our eating adventures and were looking forward to all the delicious food while we were in Italy.

Festive stands at German Christmas markets sell delicious food.
All the stands are decorated to add to the festive mood

German Christmas markets are a long-standing holiday tradition where people of all ages shop for gifts and gather to enjoy the spirit of the season. Part of experiencing Christmas markets in Germany is going on an eating adventure through them to eat your weight in delicious food as you wander. I found the best way to take in all the entertainment and stalls throughout the markets was with a steaming mug of glühwein in one hand and snacks in the other. There’s a huge variety of food available at all the markets and often some local specialties you can’t find anywhere else.

Feeling the Buffalove at RU’s Pierogi

*Update: As of October 2019 RU’s Pierogi closed their restaurant to focus on the manufacturing and wholesale business. You can still find their pierogi at RU’s Pierogi food truck, in local grocery stores, and being served up at some local restaurants.*

It had been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time before we made our way into RU’s Pierogi in Buffalo. Between friends giving it rave reviews and my sister giving my husband a gift card for his birthday, we finally had to go. RU’s is known for their delicious and creative pierogi served up in their food truck and restaurant.

Having lived in Western New York my entire life, I’ve often taken all the great food in Buffalo for granted. While I enjoy my eating adventures in other places, I’m always happy to return home to eat some of my favorite dishes again. Traveling also forced me to realize that some of these delightful foods aren’t available or even known everywhere. So enjoy them when you get the chance! Continue reading

While in Costa Rica for a short whirlwind trip, we visited Café Britt Finca and Roastery in Heredia to the north of San José. As with everything we did on that trip, taking the tour there was a last-minute based on what we felt like doing and what we could manage with our limited time in the country. That said, Sunday night after our adventure white water rafting on Río Pacuare, we booked a tour for Monday afternoon to Café Britt, Costa Rica’s first gourmet coffee roaster.

Eating Adventures

Food is easily one of my favorite things, along with naps, reading, and traveling (I guess I should include my husband on this list too). Lucky for me, he also loves food and has been a willing partner in many of my eating adventures. We have a preference for regional foods and local restaurants over chain restaurants.
