A frequent topic of discussion among travelers is their favorite travel gear to use. Some will swear by one product while others will vow to only buy this other brand’s product. I’ve compiled this list of all my favorite travel gear including some information on how I chose these items and/or why I like them. While I touched on a few of these items in my packing tips post, I go more in-depth about them here. As time goes by this list will evolve with my current items that I use and love when traveling.

Festive stands at German Christmas markets sell delicious food.
All the stands are decorated to add to the festive mood

German Christmas markets are a long-standing holiday tradition where people of all ages shop for gifts and gather to enjoy the spirit of the season. Part of experiencing Christmas markets in Germany is going on an eating adventure through them to eat your weight in delicious food as you wander. I found the best way to take in all the entertainment and stalls throughout the markets was with a steaming mug of glühwein in one hand and snacks in the other. There’s a huge variety of food available at all the markets and often some local specialties you can’t find anywhere else.

Before booking our flights to and from Europe for our three week trip in December I searched for deals and read reviews of multiple airlines. People always have a wide variety of things to say about their flight experiences: some are extremely positive while others are deeply negative. Although I do feel that the majority found online tend to be negative since many people don’t bother talking about their positive experiences. That’s why I feel it’s important for me to share this review of Icelandair with you!

One day in the office kitchen I overheard a conversation between two women who were debating whether or not you can pack for a four day trip using only carry on luggage. In my rush to see who was talking I almost spilled the coffee I had just poured. I wanted to immediately tell them: Yes! You most certainly can pack for four days in just carry on bags! After all, my husband and I had travelled all over Ecuador for ten days with just our backpacks as carry ons. I resisted the urge to interrupt their conversation to give them all the packing tips I could think of, but now I’ll share them with you!

Feeling the Buffalove at RU’s Pierogi

*Update: As of October 2019 RU’s Pierogi closed their restaurant to focus on the manufacturing and wholesale business. You can still find their pierogi at RU’s Pierogi food truck, in local grocery stores, and being served up at some local restaurants.*

It had been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time before we made our way into RU’s Pierogi in Buffalo. Between friends giving it rave reviews and my sister giving my husband a gift card for his birthday, we finally had to go. RU’s is known for their delicious and creative pierogi served up in their food truck and restaurant.

WOW Air Didn’t Wow Us

*Update: WOW Air ceased operations on March 28th, 2019*

When booking our flights for our three week trip to Europe, we booked one with WOW Air from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Reykjavik, Iceland. I have of course heard many people complain about WOW since it’s a budget airline and doesn’t offer a lot of extra amenities. I understood that and was willing to take a bare bones flight for this leg of our trip since it would only be a couple hours. For our other flights, I had booked Icelandair since I’d read they had decent leg room and my husband is tall enough to really appreciate the extra inches between rows.

When searching for trips on a budget, don’t forget to check out discount sites like Groupon Getaways. Sound weird? Maybe, but hear me out. In my experience these deals are being provided by legitimate travel agencies that are using Groupon Getaways to sell trips to individual customers at a group rate.

Having lived in Western New York my entire life, I’ve often taken all the great food in Buffalo for granted. While I enjoy my eating adventures in other places, I’m always happy to return home to eat some of my favorite dishes again. Traveling also forced me to realize that some of these delightful foods aren’t available or even known everywhere. So enjoy them when you get the chance! Continue reading

The Time Air Canada Employees Proved Canadians are the Nicest

When we were planning our trip to Ecuador, the cheapest flights we found were on Air Canada out of Toronto, ON which is only a couple of hours from Buffalo, NY. There was just one short layover in Bogotá, Colombia before we continued on to Guayaquil, Ecuador. Having never flown with the airline before, we had no idea the effect that Air Canada employees would have on our journey.
